Alabama Jury Convicts Elkmont Man on Four Child Sex Counts

A Limestone County jury convicted Dakota Lee Vaughn, 37, of Elkmont, Alabama on four counts of child sexual abuse following a trial in the 39th Judicial Circuit Court [1]. The charges included two counts of first-degree rape of a child under 12, one count of first-degree rape by forcible compulsion, and one count of sexual abuse of a child under 12 [1]. Prosecutors Kristen Clemmons and Jake Sauls of the Limestone County District Attorney's Office presented the case against Vaughn [1].

The jury returned all four convictions after deliberating approximately 20 minutes [1]. Judge Matthew Huggins presided over the proceeding in Athens, Alabama [1]. No acquittals or hung counts were returned [1].

Sentencing is scheduled for June 10, 2026, before Judge Huggins [1]. Under Alabama law, first-degree rape of a child under 12 carries a mandatory sentence of life without the possibility of parole, which constrains the court's discretion at the sentencing hearing. No post-trial motions or appellate filings are reported in available sources as of the verdict date.
